Shelby Celebrates its 60th Anniversary with a new 900HP Ford Mustang GT500KR

The limited edition model, nicknamed the King of the Road, will only have 225 units.

Shelby American is releasing a revival of the iconic Shelby GT500KR as part of its 60th anniversary celebration. The limited-edition model is based on the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 powered by a 900-horsepower supercharged V8 engine.

The new version of the GT500KR is equipped with a 3.8-liter Whipple supercharger that boosts the engine’s base output from 760HP to over 900HP. The company revealed that mechanical changes include a high-volume supercharger intercooler and heat exchanger, a cold air intake, uprated half-shafts, and a Borla exhaust system.

Suspension upgrades on the other hand, include Ford Performance front and rear sways bars and recalibrated MagneRide adaptive shocks. The GT500KR also included a new ride-height-adjustable front and rear springs.

The car’s sporty upgrades extend to its aesthetic features. The Ford Shelby GT500KR sits on 20-inch wheels offered in either polished or gloss black finish, bolted via extended wheel studs and housed in performance-spec tires.

Shelby also minted the limited edition model with carbon fiber parts including the hood, front splitter, Gurney flap, and a rear diffuser. The car is also equipped with functional evacuation air vents that improves airflow and overall appearance.

Shelby meticulously selected the car’s finer details. Billet caps adorn the engine bay along with a polished supercharger. The exterior is badged with 60th anniversary emblems for the 2022 model and graced with Shelby rocker stripes, while the interior gets leather seat covers and embroidered floor mats.

The company also offers options of rear seat delete, painted stripes, and a wide body kit for an additional cost.
